The Importance of Folic Acid for Pre-Conception and Pregnancy
Increasing folic acid intake is recommended before and during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Studies have shown that it can greatly reduce the chances of spina bifida and other neural tube defects in babies, as it ensures healthy development of the baby's spine, which takes place very soon after conception.
A Sri Lankan Islamic scholar currently visiting the Kingdom said racial tensions following an attack on Dambulla mosque in Sri Lanka had greatly eased and the country’s government is trying its best to resolve this issue amicably.
“We firmly believe that very soon a satisfactory solution will be realized on the initiative of the government,” M.I.M Rizvi Mufthie, president of the Colombo-based All Ceylon Jamiyathul Ulama (ACJU) said in Riyadh on Friday. Abdul Cader Al Mashoor Moulana, the Sri Lankan president’s coordinating secretary, was also present at the lecture.

A year ago, the United States’ President, Barack Obama, announced that his country’s most wanted man had been killed in Abottabad, Pakistan. That the killing occurred on May 1, the day on which Labour Day is marked, is significant too, because Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda movement, shook Corporate America or the so-called one per cent that own 42 percent of the US national wealth. Bin Laden’s terror group took on the US at a time when the superpower arrogance was at its peak. The US bombed and invaded countries at will and arm-twisted developing countries to promote the interest of Corporate America, so much so, some even longed for the return of the Cold War, a period during which the Soviet Union checked the US moves to dominate the world.
Foreign visitors continue to tour Sri Lanka’s central regions, despite ongoing religious tensions where Buddhist monks have demanded a 60-year-old mosque be relocated, a tourism industry lobby said.
"It’s not that much of an issue yet," NilminNanayakkara, president of the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) told reporters.
The central regions which hosts some of the island’s former royal kingdoms and historic Buddhist temples, has been in the news since the dispute flared up recently. The area is one of the key cultural and heritage sites for visiting foreign tourists.
Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader and Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem said yesterday he had discussed the Dambulla Mosque dispute with President Mahinda Rajapaksa and that he was confident it would be resolved with justice to all.
“The President assured me he would not let the dispute get out of hand and will resolve the contentious matter without harming the interests of any individual or community,” the minister said.

As the dispute over the mosque in Dambulla continues for the second week amid local and international media focus, a solution to it may come in the coming days with the intervention of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The President returned to the country on Friday after a five-day official visit to South Korea. During his stay in South Korea, Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne tried to solve the dispute. But his attempts created a fresh controversy with Minister A. H. M. Fowzie and Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana denying his claim that they took part in a meeting where a decision was taken to shift the mosque to another place.Muslim representatives now say they want to discuss the matter with the President and expressed hope a solution acceptable to all could be found.

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaathuhu
We begin by praising Allah, the Lord of the worlds, the creator, the nourisher, the cherisher, the sustainer and the one in absolute control of the universe and all that exists. We make a dua that May Allah grant us the highest level of Eamaan and Thaqwa and guide us onto the right path. May He bless us, our offspring and all those who are to come until the day of Qiyamah. May he keep us safe in this land and grant barakah here for our future generations to live in peace and harmony.
We also send blessings and salutations upon our master, Muhammad (peace be upon him). May Allah bless him, his family, his companions and all his followers.
Allah the Almighty says in the Qur’an:“And in no way did We do injustice to them, but it is they who were the unjust.” [ 43:76]
Ibn al-Qayyim described the benefits of olive oil in his Prophetic Medicine. He said that the characteristics of olive oil corresponded to the type of olives from which it came from; oil pressed from ripe olives was the better than oil from unripe olives. He also said that the older the oil, the more effective it was, and when olive oil was more beneficial when it was pressed with water.
Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that all types of olive oil could soften the skin and delay whitening of the hair. He also said that the benefits of olive oil were many times greater than have been mentioned.
A request from the All Ceylon Jamiyathul Ulama Muslims of this country are deeply worried over the recent incident took place in Dambulla in which a gang stormed the Jumma Mosque of Dambulla and damaged the place on 20 April, Friday. Muslims along with peace loving citizens of Sri Lanka are fretful if this incident would negatively impact the reconciliation that has started to sprout among communities since recently.
In the meantime, some insist that sturdy actions should be taken to display the denouncement of the Lankan Muslim community for this unholy act. However, we would like to remind them that there is a set of actions that should be followed by the believers during such times of distress.
